shipley.org.uk is a public web site by and for the residents and businesses of Shipley, West Yorkshire.

If you'd like to create a new page or update an existing page:

• use the 'Add comment' facility at the bottom of every page OR
• click 'Edit this page' and do it yourself!

The new page will have a simple web address, eg www.shipley.org.uk/Your Organisation Here.

We can also create you an email address: yourbusiness@shipley.org.uk which forwards to your existing address - again for free.

The site is free and open - anyone can add information, update stuff that's out of date and create new pages. If you see something that needs changing, click 'Edit this page' and change it.

Isn't that dangerous? What's to stop someone deleting everything?

Nothing. But the next person can just change it back. Every page has a 'memory' of its last few versions, so if something goes wrong (accidentally or maliciously) it's easy to revert to an earlier copy.

Why are you doing this?

I offered to make a free web site for Shipley Festival and thought I might as well make one that anyone in Shipley could contribute to. I build web sites for a living so it costs me nothing to run a few extra free sites here and there. There are a lot of small businesses for whom a full-blown web site doesn't make sense - they just want opening times, a price list, location & contact info. Now they can have it, with minimum effort & for free :)

C'mon, what's your angle? Okay, maybe I'll end up with a few extra clients who do need a full blown web site. But that's honestly not why I'm doing this. I set up a similar web site where I used to live --John Kershaw
