Nationally, the United Reformed Church was formed in 1972 by the joining of the Presbyterian and Congregational Churches. Other churches joined later including the Churches of Christ and Congregational Church of Scotland. Some local congregations are united with other mainstream churches in Great Britain. The URC stands in the Reformed tradition of the Christian faith, believes in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and encompasses a broad range of theological stances from conservative evangelical to liberal interpretation of the scriptures. It welcomes debate and encourages people to find out for themselves what is important about faith. See also: Shipley Churches United Reformed Church |
